Solo Adventures: Bali

Bali was a dream come true. I reached some new highs (and lows) and conquered a few fears along the way. Since deciding to move to Asia, Bali has been on the top of my list for places to travel. I am a complete "Eat Pray Love" girl and lived my own journey here the past four days (and honestly, my entire Asia adventure). My time started off with a few surprises and leads for what's next for me in life!

I spent my first three days getting my PADI open water diver certification. Since the ocean makes up such a large portion of the world, it only felt right to start exploring it. Scuba diving has always been something that interested me, but I have had an indescribable fear of fish and marine life. Shoulder shrug, who knows. Underwater is a mysterious place and I honestly didn’t know what to expect. What if I forgot how to breathe while under water? In—out—in—out seems simple until you are 60 ft below the surface. I realized that my fear came from the fact that this was the first time in a while that I tried something new and challengging. Luckily I was in good hands. I had an incredible dive instructor, Sila, and with his help (and the rest of the Bali Scuba crew), I easily learned how to dive! More importantly, I learned that the ocean is a whole world of beautiful, living creatures and organisms. I completed four ocean dives and learned all the beginner skills of scuba diving and I could not be more proud of myself!

One day after diving I decided to treat myself and took an Uber an hour north to Ubud to take a yoga class at Yoga Barn. Something that I struggled with while living in Thailand was the lack of a consistent yoga class routine and schedule. Not so much for the instruction, but the atmosphere and dynamics of actually taking a class. So it was humbling to practice again in a shared space with like minded people. It was exactly what my soul needed.

On my last day in Bali I woke up early to climb Mt. Batur. I had a private guide and we hiked for an hour and a half before summiting well before sunrise. The sky put on quite a performance for us with an incredible sunrise with Mt. Agung in the background. After the sunrise we hiked around the volcano to better see the crater before heading down. Once arriving back in Sanur I took a nap for a few hours before heading out for smoothie bowls and some time at the beach!

Bali was a special treat for me in so many ways. It allowed me to prove to myself that I can travel alone and do amazing things! I filled my body and soul with new adventures, exercise and smoothie bowls and couldn't be happier!
